BIO
Pawzi is an American artist born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Inspired by all things whimsical and dreamlike, Pawzi’s artistic voice began to peak through at an early age. Her obsession started with dark fairies and surreal mermaids, which were her first greatest Muses while growing up. With access to the internet in the early 2000s, Pawzi discovered an entire world full of surreal works by artists such as Annie Stegg Gerard as well as Jasmine Becket-Griffith (Strangeling), and later discovered artists such as Brandi Milne and Amber Carr, which fueled her desire to create fantasy beings and whimsical realms of her own.
Encapsulating beauty, playfulness, and darkness into one, Pawzi’s work often feels like looking into a portal to another realm. From blue skinned maidens and pastel pink scorpions, to candied snails and fuzzy teddy bears, each work captures a dark, dreamy, feminine allure, as well as feelings of nostalgia for places that have never existed (or do they?).
With 22 years of drawing and painting experience, Pawzi continues to create from her home studio in Bonney Lake, Washington, where she mainly works with colored pencils and paints in acrylic. She is also currently planning and working on a new body of work, which she plans to showcase in the very near future.
“"Drawing fairies and fantasies as a kid was the one and only thing that could help me escape my kid problems. I daydreamed about worlds and realms all day long, drawing fantasy girls and dreamlike lands like it was my religion. Growing up kind of took that from me, and actually, becoming an adult almost ruined my life. I lost who I once was…But then one day, I started drawing again. I started painting again. I started daydreaming again, and suddenly, it all came flooding back. That kid version of me, the fantasy obsessed one, was still there all along, and now I make art to honor her and keep her alive.” - Hannah McDonald (Pawzi)
